Peter Gluyas is proudly the third generation to run Gluyas Motor Group, a locally owned and operated dealership.
In 1929, when Dick Gluyas bought the site, it was originally a petrol station. In 1954, he acquired the Ford franchise in town, which included Ford cars, trucks, and tractors. After his passing in 1955, John Gluyas took over.
Since Peter took over in 1987, after completing his commerce degree at Otago and working at Ford New Zealand for eight years, the business has grown significantly. What began as a Ford dealership now also includes Mazda parts and service, Nissan (added in 2015), and most recently Kia in 2022.
Today, Gluyas Motor Group operates from two modern buildings and employs 35 staff members, including 12 technicians, nine of whom are fully qualified. The team places strong emphasis on working together to deliver a service where the customer is at the heart of everything they do. Their goal is to create an experience where customers feel valued, respected, and listened to.
Gluyas Motor Group has hired many apprentices over the years and looks forward to continuing this commitment in the future.
Peter also has a strong connection to the Mid Canterbury region. He serves on several committees, including the Ashburton College Alumni, because he believes education is vital for young people. In his spare time, Peter enjoys sailing in Akaroa, snow skiing at Mt Hutt, and jet boating down the Rakaia Gorge.
The Group is also heavily involved in the community and is proud to sponsor the Ruralco initiative for schools in Mid Canterbury.
