Saturday is a fine, settled day. Morning temperatures are close to freezing inland after the overnight frost, recovering to the high single figures to around 9°C on the plains and South Canterbury by afternoon under light northwest winds and generally sunny skies. The Mackenzie Basin remains fine with cold conditions, temperatures staying below zero for much of the day. Overnight, clear skies with light winds, and a further hard frost is expected across inland North Canterbury, the plains and South Canterbury, with Culverden and Rangiora down to minus 3 to minus 5°C.

Sunday morning begins cold and frosty inland after another calm, clear night, with hard frost again likely across North Canterbury, the plains and South Canterbury. Through the day winds turn light northeasterly, reaching the coast first and extending across the full width of the plains by afternoon — a sea breeze pattern reaching as far as Lincoln and beyond. Skies stay mostly sunny, with temperatures reaching the high single figures to low teens. The Mackenzie Basin remains cool and cloudy on the valley floor overnight.

Monday sees the northeast flow strengthen, becoming moderate across the plains and gusty on Banks Peninsula, with gusts near 74 km/h at Akaroa during the afternoon — sharp gusts in exposed spots. Light rain develops during the evening across the plains, Banks Peninsula and the Kaikōura Coast, generally a few millimetres, heavier around Akaroa with 2 to 3mm. The Mackenzie Basin sees a wetter spell with around 6 to 7mm through the day, and Lindis Pass has a possibility of snow with light accumulation. Temperatures reach the low teens on the plains, with hard frost still expected in sheltered spots such as Culverden and Timaru overnight. Winds across the ranges are notably strong, with damaging gusts approaching 90 km/h reported at Arthur's Pass and Lewis Pass.

Tuesday brings a continuation of light-to-moderate northeast winds and a milder airflow, with temperatures lifting into the mid-teens across the plains and reaching the high teens at Rangiora. Patchy drizzle affects parts of the region during the day. The Mackenzie Basin stays cool with rain persisting there, and hard frost is expected on the basin floor overnight.

Wednesday turns fine again with light northwest winds, sunny skies developing across most of the region, and no rain in the forecast. Temperatures reach the mid-teens on the plains and coast. Hard frost is likely overnight at Timaru and in the Mackenzie Basin.

Thursday continues the settled pattern with light northwest winds and mostly sunny skies, dry throughout the region. A sou'west change moves through the plains around midday, arriving first at Christchurch and Lincoln in the morning before reaching Darfield and Rangiora by midday — a quiet, subtle rotation with little temperature impact and no rain associated with it. Hard frost is likely overnight at Rangiora and in the Mackenzie Basin.

Confidence decreases from next Friday — the following is indicative only. Next Friday sees a westerly change move through the inner plains during the morning, with fine conditions and light winds elsewhere; hard frost is likely at Rangiora, with ground frost more widely across the plains and Banks Peninsula. Next Saturday remains settled with light northwest winds, sunny to variable cloud, and frost likely inland, including a hard frost at Culverden and Darfield. Next Sunday brings a return to northeast winds reaching across the full plains, fine conditions, and further frost inland overnight, with the Mackenzie Basin staying cold on the valley floor throughout.
