TwinGuard® – Take back control of your brassica crop

02 Dec, 2025 | Agronomy | Technical | Return|

THIS PROMOTIONAL FEATURE WAS PROVIDED BY CORTEVA AGRISCIENCE

Growing forage brassica crops for summer or winter feed take planning. Insect pests can limit brassica crop yield, by causing irreversible damage and reducing plant numbers, and directly impacting the potential of your crop. With brassica crops currently establishing, now is the right time to plan how to protect your investment and valuable feed crops for the 2025/26 season.

Enter TwinGuard® – a new solution from Corteva Agriscience. TwinGuard is a new-generation, IPM compatible insecticide registered for use in forage brassicas.

Approved by the EPA in July 2025, TwinGuard is labelled for control of yield limiting forage brassica pests including aphids (including green peach and grey cabbage aphid), springtails, leaf miner, caterpillars (including diamond back moth, white butterfly and loopers), and Nysius.

Corteva are pleased to bring a new solution for Nysius control to the forage brassica market. Nysius develops and reproduces under warm, dry environmental conditions and feeds on a wide range of plant species, including forage brassicas. Nysius can be a threat during crop establishment, reducing plant numbers by feeding on young seedlings – this can directly impact yield. Given the recent chlorpyrifos ban by the EPA, TwinGuard is a timely solution for forage brassica growers who will need more Nysius control options in the future.

Previous brassica insecticides from Corteva, Sparta® (Jemvelva®) and Transform® (Isoclast®) are well-proven in the NZ forage brassica market for their respective strengths, including caterpillars, leaf miner and springtails for Sparta, and aphids for Transform. TwinGuard combines these two proprietary insecticide active ingredients with two distinct modes of action (MOA) – Jemvelva (Group 5 MOA) and Isoclast (Group 4C MOA). There is no known cross resistance to alternate MOA’s.

TwinGuard works on pests through both contact and ingestion activity, meaning fast knockdown and cessation of feeding to limit crop damage.

TwinGuard is formulated in a user-friendly water dispersible granule. It is IPM compatible, with low toxicity to beneficial insects, and also has a favourable environmental profile. The grazing withholding period for meat is 14 days, and for milk it is 28 days, meaning it can be used for both summer and winter forage brassicas.

TwinGuard is approved for both ground and aerial application and offers the additional benefit of a relatively wide application window, covering both early establishment and post-canopy closure, depending on the target pests present in the crop. And if you need to combine weed control with insect pest control, TwinGuard has proven compatibility and crop safety with Corteva post-emergence brassica herbicides, such as Korvetto® and Milestone®, so look no further than Corteva for your brassica protection solutions.
