Friday morning begins grey and overcast region-wide. Low cloud dominates from the coast to the foothills, with better breaks only in the Mackenzie Basin through the afternoon. Temperatures remain subdued, reaching only 10–11°C on the plains. Winds are light and variable during the day. Tomorrow night, a light northwesterly develops across the plains. Cloud remains extensive. Ground frost is possible in the Mackenzie Basin where minimums drop below 2°C. Elsewhere, minimums remain around 5–8°C. Saturday morning opens with light westerly winds clearing to variable cloud across most of the region. A light to moderate northeast sea breeze develops through the afternoon, reaching the coast and mid-plains. Temperatures recover slightly to 11–13°C on the plains. Ground frost is likely inland early, particularly at Darfield, Lincoln, and Timaru where minimums fall to 1°C. Saturday night sees the northeasterly ease. Winds drift light and variable as cloud breaks. Conditions favour heavy frost formation in the Mackenzie Basin and across far western inland Canterbury.

Sunday remains under the influence of an established northeasterly flow reaching right across the plains to the foothills — a full plains penetration pattern. Winds are fresh, gusting to around 30 km/h at the coast and mid-plains. Skies are mostly sunny away from the coast and Banks Peninsula. The Mackenzie Basin stays cold with a hard frost overnight and daytime maximums barely reaching 6°C. Plains temperatures improve to around 11–12°C. Hard frost continues overnight in the Mackenzie, with ground frost elsewhere inland. Sunday night continues with the moderate northeasterly. Cloud breaks persist inland.
Monday maintains the full plains northeasterly pattern, fresh and occasionally gusty to 30 km/h at Lincoln and Rangiora. Variable cloud with sunny spells away from Timaru and Culverden where low cloud persists. Temperatures 10–12°C on the plains, around 7°C in the Mackenzie. Hard frost continues in the basin overnight, ground frost across the inland plains.
Tuesday sees the northeasterly easing to light, reaching only the mid-plains. Low cloud dominates most areas. Temperatures similar to Monday. Hard frost continues in the Mackenzie and extends to Culverden with minimums below zero.
Wednesday brings improvement. Cloud breaks to variable with high cloud developing. A light northwest flow returns to the inner plains by afternoon. Temperatures begin recovering — 13–14°C at Culverden and the foothills, around 11°C on the coast. Hard frost at Culverden overnight, ground frost elsewhere inland.
Next Thursday continues the improving trend. High cloud filters sun but conditions remain bright. A moderate northwesterly develops at the foothills, gusting to around 35 km/h at Darfield. Temperatures reach the mid-teens on the plains, approaching 18°C at Akaroa. Next Friday remains fine with high cloud. Fresh northwesterly continues at the foothills. Temperatures 14–17°C region-wide.
Next Saturday sees cloud thicken with a fresh northeasterly developing across the plains. A few millimetres of rain are possible, mainly about the foothills and inland areas.. There is a weak indication of potential hill country snow that weekend.
